Orvieto, Italy: The Doumo

One of the many great sights in Orvieto hilltown is the doumo or cathedral. Though the town is full of historic buildings, none can equal its superb Romanesque-Gothic cathedral. This cathedral was built in 1290 under the patronage of papacy. It is grand. The fa├žade is decorated with statues of scenes from the bible, with mosaics and statues of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is a collection of stone, bronze and mosaic sculptures. Is one of the most beautiful sights imaginable.
